Coffee Chat September 2nd through the 9th 2017

Hi! Welcome to my first coffee chat. Grab a cup of coffee or a "cuppa" tea and  take a minute to chat with me about a few things that are happening in the news this week.

First things first; here in South Louisiana the biggest news over the Labor Day weekend was LSU Tiger Football's first official game under Coach O's leadership. I'm not a huge Coach O fan, I'm still pretty fond of Les Miles (Geaux Les!) but the team did win against BYU and they looked pretty good.






Image result for hurricane harveyHurricane Central! Texas was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey last week and the recovery has been a big news item this week. Here's some of the astounding statistics:

 51.9 inches of rain; 19 trillion gallons of water over southeast Texas and another 5.5 trillion over Louisiana; 132 mph winds (Cat 4!) and immeasurable damage to homes and businesses with over 70 lives attributed to this massive storm.

And as I type this Hurricane Irma is expected to make landfall in Florida as a Category 4. With Jose in the Atlantic right behind Irma, this is shaping up to be a very active and devastating hurricane season.

Thursday September 7th brought a 8.1 magnitude earthquake in Mexico, purported to be the strongest earthquake in a century.

So many things to pray for this week. Take a few minutes today as you read this to pray with me for the people affected by these devastating events.  We can't explain why these things are happening around us but we can offer assistance, hope and prayer.

The Ruby Slipper - A Restuarant Review

There's no place like home.... cooking.  Er, or rather, nothing like home cooking????  The Ruby Slipper Unless it's something you never cook at home like....   Eggs Cochon (Eggs benedict with tender, melt in your mouth apple braised  pork) cooked to perfection with a smooth, creamy hollandaise sauce atop a tender bisucit and just perfect poached egg. All served with a little jazz performance by Mardi Gras Indians.  I got to enjoy this little jewel of a restaurant on it's Grand Opening this week. I had an appointment to give blood for some routine evaluations and made a plan to meet my best friend afterwards. Because....fasting blood work. Enough said.   While in the waiting room of the lab I received a text from Bestie recommending this restaurant for our brunch date. It was close. I was hungry. I said yes.  Truly, I am glad I did. I'm BACK!!! And a reading challenge

Pic: Flickr creative commons       My blogging class is over (😢) and the class and I will start learning some coding and web development next semester. Some of my students are still blogging a bit and my own daughter has started her own blog so keep checking out the links here for those student blogs.      I took some time off of almost everything that didn't relate to family and work for the last month.  I had a very nice holiday for the Thanksgiving/Christmas break. Our family took a fun trip to the Gatlinburg area (more on that in another blog post!) and enjoyed family and relaxation for the New Year week. Now that I am feeling mostly refreshed on to the next thing. Which is.....      Goals for 2018! I don't really set resolutions. I don't feel like "resolute" really defines the way I tackle any new thing. Although I'd love it to... it's just not the truth. I'm not sure "admirably purposeful" or "unwavering" is re
