The Ruby Slipper - A Restuarant Review

Image
There's no place like home.... cooking.  Er, or rather, nothing like home cooking????  The Ruby Slipper Unless it's something you never cook at home like....   Eggs Cochon (Eggs benedict with tender, melt in your mouth apple braised  pork) cooked to perfection with a smooth, creamy hollandaise sauce atop a tender bisucit and just perfect poached egg. All served with a little jazz performance by Mardi Gras Indians.  I got to enjoy this little jewel of a restaurant on it's Grand Opening this week. I had an appointment to give blood for some routine evaluations and made a plan to meet my best friend afterwards. Because....fasting blood work. Enough said.   While in the waiting room of the lab I received a text from Bestie recommending this restaurant for our brunch date. It was close. I was hungry. I said yes.  Truly, I am glad I did. Bestie has some good suggestions. This one was a winner!  I arrived early. Pulling into the parking lot and w

The Arrow And The Song I shot an arrow into the air, It fell to earth, I knew not where. For, so swiftly it flew, the sight Could not follow it in it's flight. I breathed a song into the air, It fell to earth, I knew not where; For who has sight so keen and strong, That it can follow the flight of song? Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke; And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Today, I got to spend some time with my best friend. I met her later in life, I was in my 30s and right in the middle of raising my kids. And the line of the poem holds so true for our relationship. "And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend." She was a gift to me then.  She continues to be a gift to me as she chooses to spend time with me and invest in my life. We speak the same language. We sing the same song. Today I nee

Have you ever waited a long time for something, expected it to occur, actully even have it started and then, nope, you've got to wait for it to come to fruition? I had an issue like this today. I've waited 2 years for something I needed. This project was suppose to be completed today. For reasons out of my control it was only halfway done. I was told it would be finished tomorrow then received a text that it won't get completed until Monday.  You would think after waiting 2 years that 2 more days would be a piece of cake.... but nope! I find myself struggling so much with being patient for this to happen.  I think it all comes down to expectation. For the last 2 years I didn't expect it. I knew it was a long shot for this project to be taken care of. If it had happened I would have been pleasantly surprised. Joy filled, actually. But because I expected it to happen today, even though it actually IS happening, it's in the process, progress is being made, I

Give Credit Where Credit is Due

Image
Blogs are so much more fun with pictures! And there are so many pictures on the internet that you can use to create interesting images in your posts. One thing you need to be aware of as you start Blogging is to make sure to give credit where credit is due! DON'T BE A PEST! Photo By Steve Bremmer Make sure that you are always crediting your photo sources! I snagged this image from  Flickr Creative Commons Images . These images can be cropped, text added and manipulated and are available for free. Just be sure to use the caption feature here on Blogger and credit the source of the photo. Shouldn't Mr. Bremmer receive credit for that beautiful shot? Steve, whoever you are, kudos, man, kudos.  Just remember, no one likes it when a Blogger takes credit for someone else's work, be it a photo, a list or a blog post. Creative ideas and products should be the property of the brilliant minds that produces them. When you credit an image, a Blog p

Book Review: A Time to Die

Image
My first book review!       Genre: YA Dystopian Author: Nadine Brandes Series: Out Of Time Title: A Time To Die (Book #1) Overall Rating: 🌟🌟🌟 From time to time I will read books to try them out for recommendation to my daughter or her friends or maybe even the students in my classes at co-op. This is one of those books. I mostly read fluff type novels for entertainment but occasionally will pick up a YA dystopian to break up the reading list a bit. I checked this book out of our local e-library and read it on my Kindle.  I finished the book; that's a plus. It took me several chapters to get into this novel. I don't normally give books too much of my time to convince me to stay with them if they don't appeal at first but I felt like this one had something there that made me push through the first few chapters. In the end I'm glad I did.  Here's a summary of the book from  Goodreads  : How would you live if you knew the day

New Beginnings and Blank Pages

Image
When I was a young girl there wasn’t much I enjoyed about school. I was never one of those people who wished they could go back and live those school years again. I was pretty much happy to be finished with my school years. I didn’t enjoy the social aspects of school. While I loved to learn new things I didn’t like being told what to learn and when to stop learning something. I REALLY hated …….um, strongly disliked math (although I did have a SUPER COOL geometry teacher who made a huge impact on my life, but I digress). One thing I did LOVE with a super great passion was new notebooks! I loved the way they smelled. I loved the fresh, uncreased covers; I loved the way they felt in my hand and the smooth surface of the pages. But I think what I really loved most was the potential that they represented. Those new notebooks were like new beginnings. They lured me in with the idea that I could start over. I could start my school year however I wanted. I could be a success! I could acc
